An article discussing on how to implement verses 1-16 from Surah Baqarah into one’s life. All based from the light of the Quran and Sunnah. The key messages are how to become from the Mutaqin, who enjoy a special positon by Allah. The Mutaqin are abuduntly praised in the divine scriptutres. This article will Insha Allah provide some light into this noble position.

Steps to become from the Mutaqin [God Conscious] 

ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبُ لَا رَيْبَ ۛ فِيهِ ۛ هُدًۭى لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ ٢

This is the Book! There is no doubt about it—a guide for those mindful ˹of Allah˺, [2:2]

• We are tested – as a test of faith – that do we give preference to the command of Allah over our base desires? So specify any matter in one’s life which preference is given to one’s desires over the command of Allah, and refrain from it, seeking the forgiveness of Almighty Allah. [1]
• Whoever wants to attain guidance through the Quran, then he should perpetually prefer what Allah desires over his desires. [2]

Remembering Allah at all times

ٱلَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْغَيْبِ وَيُقِيمُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ ٣

Who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and donate from what We have provided for them, [2:3]

• From amongst the important features of a believer: Having conviction in the unseen and remembering Allah at all times. [3]

Perfecting the Prayers and Rewardable Charity

ٱلَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْغَيْبِ وَيُقِيمُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ ٣

Who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and donate from what We have provided for them, [2:3]

• Judge oneself with regards to the 5 daily prayers. Any deficiency in one’s prayer then make an effort to perfect it, and establish the prayer as required by divine law. [4]
• Spend from the wealth which Allah has given you in charity [or any other good cause], having firm conviction that Allah will reward you in this world and the hereafter. [5]

[1] – مبنى التقوى على مخالفة شرع الله لهوى نفسك اختباراًً لإيمانك، فحدد أمراًً في حياتك ترى أنك تقدِّم فيه هوى نفسك على شرع الله سبحانه وتراجع عنه مستغفراً ربك.

[2] – من أسباب حصول الهداية بالقرآن تقوى الله تعالى، فقدم دائما مراد الله على هوى نفسك

[3] – من أهم صفات المؤمنين: ثباتهم على إيمانهم في حال الغيب وحال الشهادة، ومراقبتهم لله على كل الأحوال

[4] – حاسب نفسك في أمر الصلاة، وتفقد اليوم جوانب التقصير فيها فكمله، وأقمه على الوجه المطلوب شرعاً

[5] – اختبر إيمانك باليوم الآخر ويقينك به بالإنفاق اليوم من مال الله الذي آتاك، موقناً أن الله تعالى سيخلفه عليك في الدنيا والآخرة

Abstain from sins and evil

خَتَمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ وَعَلَىٰ سَمْعِهِمْ ۖ وَعَلَىٰٓ أَبْصَـٰرِهِمْ غِشَـٰوَةٌۭ ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌۭ ٧

Allah has sealed their hearts and their hearing, and their sight is covered. They will suffer a tremendous punishment.

• Committing sins and evil acts is a cause of the heart becoming sealed, which then stops the truth from entering the heart. Abstain from committing sins and evil acts. [6]

Protection from Nifaq

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَا تُفْسِدُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُصْلِحُونَ ١١ أَلَآ إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْسِدُونَ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا يَشْعُرُونَ ١٢

When they are told, “Do not spread corruption in the land,” they reply, “We are only peace-makers!” Indeed, it is they who are the corruptors, but they fail to perceive it. [2:11-12]

• Seek protection with Allah from Nifaq [Nifaq is translated as Hypocrisy, which is too claim to be a believer, yet they don’t believe. Also abstaining from those qualities that are attached to Nifaq such as lying, deception, breaking promises, breaking trusts. In order to be a complete believer, one must stay away from these qualities]. [7]

A related supplication has been mention in the Sunan of Abu Dawud:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الشِّقَاقِ وَالنِّفَاقِ وَسُوءِ الأَخْلاَقِ ‏”‏ ‏.‏

Narrated Abu Hurairah [Allah bless him]:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to supplicate by saying: “O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee from divisiveness, hypocrisy, and evil character.”

• Allah explains the plight of the disbelievers in 2 verses and the Munafiqun [Hypocrites] in ten verses, because the danger of the Munafiqun is more dangerous, due to their deception. Hence, seek protection for the Ummah [Muslim nation] from the dangers and evil of the Munafiqun. [8,9]

[6] المعصية قد تكون سبباً لأن يختم الله على القلب فلا يستطيع الوصول إلى الحق

[7]  استعذ بالله من النفاق

[8, 9] فَصَّلَ الله أحوال الكافرين في آيتين، وأحوال المنافقين بثلاث عشرة آية لأن خطر المنافقين أشد من خطر الكافرين؛ فالمنافقون ينخدع بهم عوام المسلمين
