October 2024: The Blessed Sahabah

 

 

 

 

وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُهَـٰجِرِينَ وَٱلْأَنصَارِ وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوهُم بِإِحْسَـٰنٍۢ رَّضِىَ ٱللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ وَرَضُوا۟ عَنْهُ وَأَعَدَّ لَهُمْ جَنَّـٰتٍۢ تَجْرِى تَحْتَهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًۭا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ ١٠٠

 

As for the foremost—the first of the Emigrants [Companions of the Prophet ﷺ from Makkah]  and the Helpers [Companions of the Prophet ﷺ from Madinah]—and those who follow them in goodness, Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him. And He has prepared for them Gardens under which rivers flow, to stay there forever and ever. That is the ultimate triumph. [9:100]

 

The Sahabah [رَّضِىَ ٱللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ] hold a lofty and revered position in our religion. Their faith was unwavering, their dedication unfathomable. Their virtues are too many to enumerate. 

 

 

One of which is recorded by Imam Bukhari [256 AH] in his Sahih:

 

 

عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ “‏ لاَ تَسُبُّوا أَصْحَابِي، فَلَوْ أَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ أَنْفَقَ مِثْلَ أُحُدٍ ذَهَبًا مَا بَلَغَ مُدَّ أَحَدِهِمْ وَلاَ نَصِيفَهُ ‏”‏‏.

 

Narrated Abu Sa`id [RadiyAllahu Anhu]:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Do not abuse my companions for if any one of you spent gold equal to Uhud (in Allah’s Cause) it would not be equal to a Mud or even a half Mud spent by one of them.” [Sahih al-Bukhari: 3673]

 

The Blessed Sahabah رَّضِىَ ٱللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ reached such a status that those that came later will not be able to attain. 

 

They embraced the message of Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم with remarkable zeal, often at great personal risk and sacrifice. 

 

Moreover, the Sahabah demonstrated unparalleled loyalty and support for the messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم. 

 

So much can be said regarding the Sahabah رَّضِىَ ٱللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ, however in conclusion the legacy of the Sahabah continues to inspire and guide muslims, which clearly shows how lofty and blessed their رَّضِىَ ٱللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ are. 

 

We will conclude with a poem on the Sahabah رَّضِىَ ٱللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ:

 

 

 

In the dawn of Islam’s early light,

Stood the Sahabah, valiant and bright.

With hearts of gold and spirits bold,

Their tales of faith are ever told.

 

With words of truth and deeds so pure,

Their loyalty was firm and sure.

From Makkah’s trials to Madinah’s grace,

Their sacrifices left a sacred trace. 

O Sahabah, your virtues shine,

In every heart, your light divine.

May your example ever guide,

The faithful on this righteous stride.

Your legacy lives through every age,

Written in the Quran’s sacred page.

In faith and Honour, you lead the way,

In our hearts, you forever stay.

September 2024: The Excellent Example

 

 

لَّقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِى رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌۭ ٢١

 

Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example [33:21]

 

As-salaamu-alaikum Deen Waypoint Viewers,

 

There is no doubt, every believer firmly believes that Our beloved Prophet [ﷺ] is the best of all creation and hence the best example to follow. 

 

Imam Baghawi [516 AH] in his famous tafsir book ‘Ma’alim al-Tanzil’ explains the linguistic definition of [أُسْوَةٌ] which is above translated as example, he [Allah bless him] states:

 

قُدْوَةٌ صَالِحَةٌ كَالْقُدْوَةِ مِنَ الِاقْتِدَاءِ

 

Which literally means the best example to follow. Outlining the importance of following the messenger of Allah ﷺ.

 

Imam Ibn Kathir [774 AH] comments on the above verse in his tafsir named ‘Tafsir a-Quran al-Adhim’:

 

هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ الْكَرِيمَةُ أَصْلٌ كَبِيرٌ فِي التَّأَسِّي بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي أَقْوَالِهِ وَأَفْعَالِهِ وَأَحْوَالِهِ

 

‘This verse is a great principle in following the Prophet [ﷺ] in all his statements, actions and situations.’ Meaning following the Sunnah of The Noble Messenger [ﷺ] which is his way of life in all our religious and worldly affairs.  

 

It is due to the Prophet [ﷺ] we learn the true meaning of generosity, bravery, truthfulness, patience and many other great qualities. 

 

Therefore, it is of utmost importance we study his [ﷺ] life and reflect upon his [ﷺ] statements. 

 

Many books can be consulted, one of which is recommended by many scholars ‘Riyad al-Saliheen’. Alhamdulillah we have a podcast series on this book and Insha-Allah with the help of Allah, we aim to cover an abridged study of the entire book.

وأجمل منك لم تلد النساء Mothers have never given birth to anyone more handsome than you.	وأحسن منك لم ترقطّ عيني My eyes has never seen anyone more beautiful than you (O’ Prophet ﷺ).
كأنك قد خلقت كما تشاء It is as though you have been created the way you yourself desired.	خلقت مبرّءاً من كل عيب You have been created free from every defect.

August 2024: Silence is Salvation 

 

مَنْ صَمَتَ نَجَا

 

“Whoever is silent, he is saved.”

 

[Sunan at-Tirmidhi: 2501]

 

As-salaamu-alaikum Deen Waypoint Viewers,

 

 

The theme of this month’s update ‘Silence is Salvation’ is based on the above Hadith.

 

 

 

Imam Nawawi [676 AH] states in his renowned book Riyad us-Saliheen [Chapter 254]:

 

وهذا صريح أنه ينبغي أن لا يتكلم إلا إذا كان الكلام خيرًا، وهو الذي ظهرت مصلحته، ومتى شك في ظهور المصلحة، فلا يتكلم‏.‏

 

A summary of the above statement is summarised below to enable easy understanding.

 

With regards to speech there are 3 types:

 

1. Good speech
2. Silence 
3. Evil speech 

 

Good speech is highly recommended and includes: Recitation of the Quran, Dhikr, speaking good to the people, as stated in The Noble Quran:

 

 

وَقُولُوا۟ لِلنَّاسِ حُسْنًۭا ٨٣

 

And speak to people good [words] (2:83)

 

 

This type is highly praiseworthy and recommended. 

 

The second type is ‘silence’. 

 

 

If anybody is unable to implement the first type (good speech) then silence is the best. As mentioned by our beloved Prophet:

 

 

عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال‏:‏ ‏ “‏من كان يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر، فليقل خيرًا، أو ليصمت

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “He who believes in Allah and the Last Day must either speak good or remain silent.“

[Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim]

 

 

The Third type is ‘Evil Speech’ and this at all times is prohibited. Some of evil speech includes:

 

 

• Backbiting
• Insulting/teasing
• Gossiping
• Lying 

 

 

Any speech that includes sin and evil is prohibited and at all times must be abstained from. In fact one of the main causes of entering the Hellfire is due to the tongue as stated in a Hadith. 

 

 

We will conclude with a beautiful poem mentioned by Imam Ibn Abdil Barr [463 AH]:

 

 

 

من قال بالخير غنم Whoever speaks good gains [reward]	من لزم الصمت نجا Whoever holds firm to silence is saved [from evil]
من طلب العلم علم Whoever pursues knowledge has acquired [knowledge]	من صدق الله علا Whoever believes sincere in Allah has ascended
من رحم الناس رحم  Whoever shows mercy to the people, he will be shown mercy	من ظلم الناس أسا  Whoever oppresses the people has [committed] evil
غير ذوي الفضل حرم  someone inappropriate will be deprived	من طلب الفضل إلى Whoever seeks virtue from
من أحسن السمع فهم Whoever perfects his listening has understood	من حفظ العهد وفى  Whoever protects his promise has fulfilled [his promise]

 

We supplicate to our Rabb, O Allah! We pray to you that you give us the divine ability [Tawfiq] to keep our tongues moist with the remembrance of Allah and all forms of good speech, and protect us from falling into sin with our tongues & limbs. Amin.

July 2024: Pride and Arrogance

 

As-salaamu-alaikum Deen Waypoint Viewers,

 

Welcome to the July 2024 ‘Pride and Arrogance’ Update. 

 

 

Pride is often described as the breaker of faith. Reason being is this quality makes one reject the truth. Pride also makes one look down on others and think oneself to be better than others. This is a detestable quality. 

 

Indeed this is a statement of the accursed devil (Shaitaan). 

 

Allah recalls the statement of the accursed devil: 

 

 

قَالَ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَلَّا تَسْجُدَ إِذْ أَمَرْتُكَ ۖ قَالَ أَنَا۠ خَيْرٌۭ مِّنْهُ خَلَقْتَنِى مِن نَّارٍۢ وَخَلَقْتَهُۥ مِن طِينٍۢ ١٢

 

Allah asked, “What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?” He replied, “I am better than he is: You created me from fire and him from clay.”  (7:12)

 

 

Almighty Allah then expelled the devil from paradise. This incident is recorded in the Quran: 

 

 

قَالَ فَٱهْبِطْ مِنْهَا فَمَا يَكُونُ لَكَ أَن تَتَكَبَّرَ فِيهَا فَٱخْرُجْ إِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰغِرِينَ ١٣

 

He said, “Then, get you down from here, it is not for you to show arrogance here. So, get out. You are one of the degraded. [7:13]

 

 

We learn from this event that pride and arrogance is a quality that is not befitting for Paradise [Jannah]. 

 

This is further corroborated in a Hadith: 

 

 

عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ “‏ لاَ يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مَنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ مِثْقَالُ حَبَّةٍ مِنْ خَرْدَلٍ مِنْ كِبْر

 

Abdullah [Allah blesss him] narrated that the Messenger of Allah said:

“Whoever has a mustard seed’s weight of pride (arrogance) in his heart, shall not be admitted into Paradise.

[Sunan at-Tirmidhi:1998]

 

 

Dear Reader, Lower the wing of humility, for surely the one who humbles himself, Almighty Allah will elevate his ranks. 

 

May Allah grant us protection from pride, arrogance and all despised traits. Amin.

 إِنَّ دِمَاءَكُمْ وَأَمْوَالَكُمْ وَأَعْرَاضَكُمْ عَلَيْكُمْ حَرَامٌ كَحُرْمَةِ يَوْمِكُمْ هَذَا فِي شَهْرِكُمْ هَذَا

“Verily, your lives, your property, and your reputations have been made sacred to you, just as the sanctity of this day of yours, in this month of yours.’’

Recently my uncle [Allah preserve him] asked me regarding articles based on slandering, accusing and similar actions. So after looking into several verses of the Quran and Ahadith, the root cure [also cause] is based on a believer’s honour. 

A person who protects a believer’s honour will refrain from these loathsome sins and one who falls into these sins will defame a believer’s honour. 

Now about the hadith quoted at the start, it was said during the day of Arafah, in the month of Hajj and in Makkah. Just as both are sacred to the believers, so is the honour of a muslim.

The Magnificent Quran: January 2024

 

..لأُعَلِّمَنَّكَ سُورَةً هِيَ أَعْظَمُ سُورَةٍ فِي الْقُرْآنِ ‏”‏‏.‏ قَالَ ‏”‏ ‏{‏الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ‏}‏ هِيَ السَّبْعُ الْمَثَانِي وَالْقُرْآنُ الْعَظِيمُ الَّذِي أُوتِيتُهُ ‏”‏‏.‏

Welcome to the January 2024 ‘The Magnificent Quran’ Update. 

 

 

It has been 5 months since the website went live and Alhamdulillah the traffic to the website has been good. Also the feedback from the public has been really pleasing. Allah accept our little efforts and grant us sincerity in our actions.  

 

The Quran is a source of guidance and light for all. From the Quran Surah al-Fatiha has been considered the most virtuous surah by many scholars, in fact some scholars state that the meanings of the entire Quran can be found in Surah al-Fatiha.

 

We have started the Tafsir [Explanation] of Surah al-Fatiha and intend to complete it over the next 4/5 podcast episodes, Insha Allah.

Along with this, we have also added and updated a few articles.
